Events and Guided Walks 2025

We are Back with what will hopefully be a full schedule of guided walks this year, as always prepare for bugs (including ticks) and have water, and perhaps rain gear if the weather forecast suggests to – we will walk rain or shine.

Phippsburg Land Trust is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization, and we welcome all to become members, to help support our programs and the protection of land in Phippsburg.

Spring/Summer Mushrooms Guided Walk

Cooley Preserve at Center Pond – Saturday, July 26th at 11am-1pm

mushroom

Our own mushroom hound, Tim Richter will lead a walk in search of the elusive early summer mushrooms – Black Trumpet and Chanterelles, and possibly others. Which trail we use will depend on weather and the mood of the mushrooms. This will be a longer hike, as we have to move slowly to see the mushrooms; walk too fast and you won’t see any. Tim will talk about the dangers of wild mushrooms, identification, where to look; and how to safely get into mushroom foraging.

Directions to Cooley Preserve

What to Bring to Outdoor Events:
We suggest long pants, long sleeves and sturdy shoes with socks. Bring a sweater, rain-gear and hat if weather suggests. Insect repellent and “bottled” water is recommended for summer walks, trail snacks are advisable for longer walks. Events will still be held in light rain, if we opt to cancel due to severe weather, we will post that at least two days in advance if possbile.
Please also remember that Phippsburg Land Trust believes in ‘Carry In – Carry Out’ principles.

“Twin Peaks” Guided Walk

Robinson’s Rock and Merrit Mountain, date TBD.

While not directly PLT properties, these two peaks, at just over 200 Ft above sea level present some spectacular views of the southern third of the peninsula, and the eastern half of Casco Bay. On really clear days with the correct atmospheric conditions you might even spy Mt. Washington from Robinson’s Rock, a.k.a. ‘the Bumpah’. Join us for a jaunt up one or both of these ‘peaks.’ The hiking is not technical but is a bit steep and ‘rugged’ for small stretches, water and hiking poles are helpful.

Hikers will park at Sebasco, more details forthcoming.
