Apple Tree Pruning Clinic

Saturday, April 8th, 2017 – 9am to 11am, followed by a guided walk

Location: Wilbur Preserve at Cox’s Head
Leader: Dan Dowd (PLT) and Willow Schwarz (Landcrafters)

On Saturday, April 8, 2017 the Phippsburg Land Trust is pleased to welcome back Willow Schwarz of Landcrafters in Woolwich Maine to the Wilbur Preserve at Cox’s Head. This beautiful 10 acre preserve is on the shores of the Kennebec River and Atkins Bay.
Willow will train those in attendance on best practices and techniques for Apple Tree Pruning and Care. Willow has been caring for and pruning apple trees for years and comes to us with an abundance of information and enthusiasm. We will have an opportunity to do some hands-on work on a grove of vintage apple trees at the Wilbur Preserve at Cox’s Head (a Phippsburg Land Trust property donated by the Rankin family). Bring hand pruners and small hand saws and wear gloves and protective clothing. The clinic will begin at 9 am and run until approximately 11 am followed by a walk led by Phippsburg Land Trust Board Member Dan Dowd to the promontory of Cox’s Head.
Any questions please contact Dan Dowd at 207 389 2689. All ages and interested parties are welcome.

Gamble Preserve Walk and Talk

Saturday, June 3rd, 2017 – 9am to 11am

Location: Gamble Preserve at West Point
Leader: Dan Dowd, Dot Kelly (PLT); and Jean Scott – Phippsburg Historic Preservation Comm.

On Saturday, June 3, 2017 the Phippsburg Land Trust and Phippsburg Historic Preservation Commision are pleased to welcome all interested hikers to theWestPoint area of Phippsburg for a guided walk and talk on the history of the Gamble Preserve and Wallace Circle area.  Though it is our smallest preserve, the Gamble preserve packs a great deal of local history into a small place.  Join us for historic photos and memories of the house that once stood on the lot, as well as the story of a local lobsterman for whom the ‘Henry’s Way’ trail is named.  A walk will follow Jean Scott’s presentation, and the morning will end with a coffee reception on Wallace Circle. Please join us to view this spectacular if small waterfront parcel. Attendees should park at the Gamble Preserve, so as not to block Wallace Circle, note that parking is limited, and car pooling is advised.
